POCATELLO — PetSmart is coming to Pocatello.

Erin Gray, PetSmart’s senior corporate communications manager, confirmed Wednesday that the company is building a PetSmart in the area of Hurley Drive and Highway 91, and it’s slated to open this fall.

“PetSmart, Inc. is the largest specialty pet retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets,” according to the PetSmart corporate website, which adds that it operates over 1,500 pet stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

PetSmart does have a store in Idaho Falls, which offers pet foods and supplies, along with grooming, training and adoption services. The store also sells fish and birds along with some small animals and reptiles.

Corporate officials did not release any information Wednesday regarding what services and supplies the PetSmart in Pocatello will have, but they plan to provide more details later this year.

Lynn Transtrum, Pocatello’s building official, said they issued a building permit for the store in March. Since then, there have been inspections of the foundation and masonry of the building that’s now under construction.

Transtrum said the store will be 18,058 square feet in size.

He believes it will be a positive asset for the community.

“I think we’re a very pet friendly town,” he said.
