PARMA, Idaho (AP) — Idaho county commissioners are scheduled to hear an appeal for a proposed sorghum and biogas plant in southwestern Idaho.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2qQGegw ) the Treasure Valley Renewables firm is seeking a planned unit development agreement that would allow it to manufacture or produce hazardous chemicals or gasses near Parma.
Canyon County’s Planning and Zoning Commission previously rejected the firm’s application. County commissioners will hear the firm’s appeal on Monday.
If approved, officials say the project will create 75 jobs. Proponents of the project including Parma Mayor Nathan Leigh say the project will further economic development and may lead to affordable housing.
A group against the plant says it is concerned with the safety risks, traffic and smell that would follow the project.
