The Pocatello community is invited to join in the Elks Lodge Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, beginning at 10 am in lower Ross Park. All children ages 1 to 12 are invited to participate.
In order for everyone to have a good time, there will be four age groups for the children, with different egg hunts for the age groups. Children will find many prizes in collecting their eggs and Lodge volunteers will be on hand. The Easter Bunny will be there, too.
Time is “running out” to register for Pocatello’s premier 5K obstacle race! Register today and plan to compete as SEICAA and Old Town host the 5th Annual Urban Invasion Obstacle Challenge on Saturday, April 29.
This four person team race is sponsored by ERA The Brokerage and Guild Mortgage. Grab your three most adventure-seeking friends and register your team to compete east to west through Old Town. The Pocatello Art Center offers “Pay As You Go” classes for artistically minded people who would like to join a friendly group and get some guidance with their projects.
Gabrielle Sivitz hosts a new all media open studio from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Mondays, Bob Beason provides assistance in all media on Tuesdays from 9 am to 12 pm, Karen Wardle focuses on issues with oil paintings on Wednesdays from 9 am to 12 pm, as well as Pennie Wolf from 1 to 4 pm on Thursdays.
Bring a project, art supplies, and your questions. Daytime sessions are $12.50, the evening session is $10 with no registration required. The Pocatello Art Center is located at 444 N. The Portneuf Valley Farmers Market will host a vendor open house on Saturday from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Old Town Pavilion, 420 N. Main St. Market vendors are invited to come talk with the Market Managers and fill out applications for the 2017 season.
The Department of Weights and Measures and the Idaho State Tax commission will also be available to answer questions. The Portneuf Valley Farmers Market will open on Saturday, May 6, at 9 am and will be open every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm through the end of October. If you are a return vendor or interested in becoming a new vendor, please plan to stop by the open house.
Sidewalk Chalk Art Walk scheduled for Friday May 5! Local kids will begin creating sidewalk chalk art at 2:30 pm throughout Old Town Pocatello. Drawing will continue until 5 pm when Art Walk begins and our community can enjoy the wonderful hand-drawn art.
Every child that registers in advance and creates a sidewalk chalk drawing will receive an Old Town T-shirt and a free ice cream cone from Old Town Ice Cream & Candy, along with coupons and information from the merchants in Old Town Pocatello. The registration form is located at www.oldtownpocatello.com and the registration deadline is April 21.
Portneuf Valley Brewing has a great lineup for this weekend starting with a new band for Friday: The Black Canvas. They’ll be performing an eclectic mix of jazz, soul, funk, and rock. You can sample their sound on the PVB webpage. Saturday night they will welcome back Gas, Food and Lodging with a few lineup changes and danceable pop/rock for your listening pleasure.
Both shows are in The Loft from 9 pm-11:30 pm with no cover! On Wednesday, April 19 at 6 pm is the Museum After Dark: Chemistry of Beer event. It’s $20 per person for buffet pizza, appetizer and salad spread plus beer tasting and a 20 minute presentation by brewmistress Penny Pink about the science of beer. Tickets are available at the Museum of Natural History.
The American Legion will have their regular monthly meeting at 7 pm on Wednesday night. Steak Night with the American Legion is scheduled for Friday. Steaks will be served from 5 pm to 7 pm.
It’s only $14 for a full Rib Eye steak with all the fixings or for those with a small appetite they have a Senior with all the fixings form only $7. Chili Dog Night with the American Legion is scheduled for April 21, from 5 pm to 8 pm. The cost is only $6 and you get a chili dog, chips and soda.
All proceeds go to the plans and programs of Pocatello Post 4, and all events take place at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building, 300 N Johnson.

The Friends of the Marshall Public Library invite the public to their Spring Used Book Sale which will be held Thursday through Saturday, April 20-22. The sale will be held in the Marshall Library, 113 S. Garfield St., Pocatello.
A wide variety of soft and hardcover books as well as videos and CDs will be available for purchase. Paperback items will be sold for $1 each and hardbacks for $2.00. However, all remaining stock will be reduced 50 percent on Saturday morning!
