The Pocatello Pet Lodge, 145 S. 3rd, has announced that registration is now open for their Spring Session — Basic Manners Class. There will be eight weekly sessions on Tuesdays beginning on April 4 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Registration is $175 and includes dog training leash, collar, a bag of treats plus three days of Doggie Day Care. This class will fill up fast so call 237-PETS today for more information and to register.
X-Caliber Cuts & Color located at 123 N. Main St. has three exciting specials in place. They are now featuring $12 kids cuts for all kids ages 12 and under. Stop in on Fridays for Father & Son Fridays when you both get a great hair cut for $35. And, on Sundays at 6pm stop in for poker night a free Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament. The Pocatello Art Center will be offering a variety of classes in April for artistically minded people at all levels of experience. Danene Taysom’s Everything Color painting classes run Tuesdays 7-9 pm or Wednesdays 3-5 pm; $65 for Art Center members, $75 for non-members. On Thursday evenings, Richard Albright teaches Beginning Digital Photography; $75 for 4 weeks. A new evening Pay-As-You-Go class with Gabrielle Sivitz starts on Monday, April 3, 6:30-8:30 pm for $10 per 2 hour session, and the daytime Pay-As-You-Go classes with Bob Beason, Karen Wardle and Pennie Wolf on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays will continue for $12.50 per 3 hour session.
This weekend at Portneuf Valley Brewing there will be a double-header performance by country rock darlings KIN, performing Friday and Saturday 9 pm-11:30 pm, no cover. And in case you missed it, you can now place orders online through the PVB website at www.portneufvalleybrewing.com.
On Friday, April 7, Old Town Pocatello will host the April First Friday Art Walk from 5 pm to 8 pm. A special invitation is being extended to families in our community. Plan to bring your entire family to Art Walk! Be sure to catch a complimentary ride on the Citizens Community Bank Old Town Trolley. On board the trolley each child will receive a package of sidewalk chalk. The chalk will include a flyer with information about how to have your kids create a sidewalk chalk art entry for the May Art Walk.
The Easter Egg Extravaganza is coming to Old Town on Saturday, April 8. Participating merchants will have Easter Eggs for the kids beginning at 11am until all of the eggs are gone. There will be thousands of eggs for the kids and plenty of time for families to walk through our beautiful shops and restaurants. Plan to spend a while enjoying the spring charm of Old Town Pocatello. We do expect a visit from the Easter Rabbit, too!

The 27th Annual Rocky Mountain Writers Festival is slated for April 5-8. Pocatello writers of poetry, prose and music share their work in four nights at five Pocatello venues. All readings start at 7 pm and are free to the public:
On April 5, Portneuf Valley Brewing will feature Krishna Strong and well known writers in the area and singer/songwriter Matthew Murdock.
On April 6, College Market will feature Kelly Ricken and readers from the ISU community: students, faculty and alumni. On April 7, Bru House will host the first ever Fantasy/Sci-Fi Night featuring Chelsea “Citizen Rouge” and local writers.
On April 8, Old Town Ice Cream will feature Leslie Leek, and local and out of town writers, as Great Rift Press presents the Pocatello premier of a multi-media documentary about retracing an expedition by the great Idaho Kayaker from Salmon, Walt Blackadar, produced and created by Ron Watters and Cathy Daly.
Will Peterson, owner of Walrus and Carpenter Books in Old Town Pocatello, started this festival 27 years ago. The event continues into another year to honor the irrepressible spirit of the writing community and the support of the Pocatello audiences. The Portneuf Valley Farmers Market will host a vendor open house on April 15 from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Old Town Pavilion, 420 N. Main St. Market vendors are invited to come talk with the Market Managers and fill out applications for the 2017 season.
The Department of Weights and Measures and the Idaho State Tax commission will also be available to answer questions. The Portneuf Valley Farmers Market will open on Saturday, May 6, at 9 am and will be open every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm through the end of October. If you are a return vendor or interested in becoming a new vendor, please plan to stop by the open house.

Pocatello’s premier 5K obstacle race will be returning to Old Town Pocatello on Saturday, April 29. Plan now to compete as SEICAA and Old Town host the 5th Annual Urban Invasion Obstacle Challenge. This four-person team race is sponsored by ERA The Brokerage and Guild Mortgage. Grab your three most adventure-seeking friends and register your team to compete east to west through Old Town. Along the course, encounter 20 crazy obstacles built by local businesses and organizations. Registration is now open at www.raceentry.com. Come join the fun and support SEICAA’s emergency services programs.
The Friends of the Marshall Public Library invite the public to their Spring Used Book Sale Thursday through Saturday, April 20-22. The sale will be held in the Marshall Library, 113 S. Garfield St., Pocatello.
A wide variety of soft and hardcover books as well as videos and CDs will be available for purchase. Paperback items will be sold for $1.00 each and hardbacks for $2.
However, all remaining stock will be reduced 50 percent on Saturday morning! Hours for the sale are: Thursday, April 20, 9 am to 9 pm, Friday, April 21, 9:00 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, April 22, 9 am to 4 pm. For further information please call Marshall Public Library at (208) 232-1263.
On Friday, May 5, local kids will begin creating sidewalk chalk art at 2:30 pm throughout Old Town Pocatello. Drawing will continue until 5 pm, when Art Walk begins and our community can enjoy the wonderful hand-drawn art.
Every child who creates a sidewalk chalk drawing will receive an Old Town T-shirt and a free ice cream cone from Old Town Ice Cream & Candy. They’ll also receive coupons and information from the merchants in Old Town Pocatello. Be sure your kids get their sidewalk chalk during the April First Friday Art Walk and plan to draw in May!
