The Cache County Sheriff's Office released the name of a child who drowned in the Left Hand Fork last weekend as part of a statement released Tuesday outlining investigation results.
Two-year-old Titan Chavez of Brigham City was camping with his family in the Left Hand Fork area of Blacksmith Fork Canyon on Sunday. The canyon is located near Logan in northern Utah.
The boy had only been unattended for a "very short amount of time," the Sheriff's Office states, before he walked away from the campsite and to the river, where he apparently fell in and drowned.
The Sheriff's Office emphasized that the incident has been ruled an accidental death and that no criminal charges are being pursued.
"Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Chavez family who is suffering the outcome of this terrible event," the release states. "We hope that you will allow them their space and privacy as they grieve the loss of their son."
The Sheriff's Office reiterated that rivers are running high and swift due to "record levels of snowpack," and anyone recreating near rivers should take extra caution.
